Health and Social Care Trusts launch public consultation on £70M health service savings

All five Health and Social Care (HSC) Trusts yesterday announced at meetings open to the public that they have been tasked by the Department of Health to develop draft savings plans to deliver a total saving of £70M in 2017/18.

Each Trust has been set a different financial target and, at yesterday’s meetings, each put forward proposals as to how they would meet these targets.

These targets are:

  • Belfast HSC Trust - £26.3M
  • Western HSC Trust - £12.5M
  • Southern HSC Trust - £6.4M
  • South Eastern HSC Trust - £10.85M
  • Northern HSC Trust - £13M.

The Trusts have now launched a six-week public consultation period, in which they are asking healthcare professionals, service users, carers and members of the public to have their say about the proposed cuts.

These consultation documents can be accessed online via each Trust’s website or people can request the document in hard copy format.

They can also request the consultation documents in alternative formats, such Braille, disk, audio cassette and minority languages. They would welcome feedback, however, even if by phone, email or letter.

Further details of any public consultation events will be made public as soon as the details have been finalised.

Each Trust stresses that no decisions have been made on the proposed savings and this consultation provides an opportunity for people to give their views on the proposals.

Links to the public consultation document, as well as addresses and telephone numbers, for each Trust are listed below.

Comments should be returned by 5 October 2017.
