‘Working Together to Put Things Right’ – an IHRD update

The Department of Health has published its latest update on the ongoing work to implement the recommendations of the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia-Related deaths (IHRD).
The progress report details how working groups are addressing key areas including duty of candour and education and training. A number of the inquiry recommendations are complex and require considerable research, consultation and reflection.
A number also require legislation which will require a Minister and legislature.

The next update is due to come out be mid-October when it is hoped there will be the beginning of a steady stream of circulars being issued within the health service detailing how individual recommendations should be implemented.

The Hyponatraemia Implementation Programme is comprised of nine workstreams and 200 people from different backgrounds working through the recommendations arising from the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia-Related Deaths (IHRD).

The Patient and Client Council have been actively following the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia-Related deaths (IHRD) and the related 96 recommendations from Justice O’Hara’s inquiry.
